Germany is definitely protecting their own Auto industry which is doing poorly competing with Tesla and Chinese EVs
10
Not necessarily bums. Some EV owners have to cut cable to free themselves when charger malfunctions and won't release the latch especially when it's freezing cold
8
I live in soutern Ontario, and governemnt has been pushing home owners to ditch their gas furnace and replace them with heat pumps. Disregarding the power grid issues, the noise and vibration from these pumps will deafen the whole neighbourhood streets if they were installed in every household. The colder it gets, the less efficient they become and the harder they will have to work, and shortened lifespan and higher service cost.

You must think Amish are the brightest of all people
5
You are ignorant on how EV works. A delivery van has fixed routes and stops at warehouse. They can charge while they are loading parcels, no need for extra long range, its all short range trips. Saves battery weight, highly efficient ussage.
5
That's part of joy EV owners get kicks out showing off their planning abilities in charging logistics.
5
How is gas car any different? All cars depreciate rapidly.
5
Have to agree the larger and heavier the vehicle, the less efficient for batteries to carry energy because of energy / weight ratio math don't work. But I'm still in favor of 90% city cars should be electric as they are mainly used for short trips and daily commutes. There is no need to be producing exhaust fumes while sitting idle in traffic jams.
4
You celebrate too soon. Trump is in bed with Elon. By that extension with Chinese EV industry
4
Porsche is retreating back to gas cars because they can't compete with the Chinese brands who are making higher quality cars at half the cost.
3
@paddyodoors2757 your job isn't his job. You said rural run. Maybe his route is all urban stop and go traffic, perfectly suited for EVs. Not like your ice car would waste fuel idling 90% of time.
3
@mikeslater6246 I know. Geothermal is very expensive to set up . Not everything is about efficiency. You must think about installation and maintenance cost also.
3
This got nothing to do with EVs
3
@Skot-ish there is natural gas and nuclear.. natural gas is far cleaner than coal. Even coal plants have much better filters then car tailpipe emissions that causes cancer. You can put in much better filter in power plants where weight and size is not limited. If you ever visited big cities in China you'd appreciate the quiet and clean air next to the main traffic.
3
The question we are all wondering is that why did this Biritish engineer / laywer give up his lucrative career to become an anti-EV Youtuber in Australia?
3
@ridwansantoso7180 robotaxi is a pipedream. Tesla is entirely dependent on Chinese battery suppliers. Cheese battery will make into the US market through the musk backdoor.
3
Fossil fuels are 100% efficient in cold weather where the waste heat is very useful for keeping occupants warm!
2
Battery safety is being improved significantly in China though. A lot of these fires are from older generation battery tech. and lower end brands. Most major high end brands are pretty safe and fires are rare, with BYD being the exception it seems. The current generation of EV batteries from major Chinese companies all have fire resistance up to 1000C, and penetrative protection.
2
Australians either misinformed or old fashioned thinking
2
Most of these are from cheaply made batteries of unknown n brand or older LG chem batteries. Newer batteries are alot safer. Zeekr Golden battery pack can withstand 1000 degree fire and charge 500 km n 10 min. BYD blade battery will not combust even when penetrated by a nail.
2
@simflyer1429 these door to door delivery vehicles spend majority of time stop and go then stop again. And not necessary going long distances. Ideal for short range EVs. I shake my head whenever I see an ice delivery van idling at every stop. It's wasting 90% of fuel while creating dirty exhaust in otherwise clean aired neighborhood.
2
@simflyer1429 you seen a fracking oil field
2
@howardj602 no . Just reverse ac basically
2
@VK4VO all the fossil fuel will be gone by then also.
2
Only in the Western countries. In China, Indonesia, Thailand, Brazil, India etc. all going up on EV adoption.
2
Average car weight has been steadily taking up even before EVs became mainstream. Should we ban all the pickup trucks in America too?
2
Norway is already 90% EV. I guess they are all crazy..
2
Clearly you are not just advocating for more moderate rate of EV transition, clearly you are attached to the past and internal combustion engines. EVs are soulless etc make you abundantly clear you are not speaking from the place of logic but from emotions.
2
Germans like to use cheap no name Chinese batteries rather than reputable ones to save cost. See Mercedes EQE fire in South Korea using the worst and cheapest batteries possible for their EVs.
2
Depends on where you live. Here in Ontario Canada, I only pay 2.8 cents / kwh overnight. Charging at night literally means the cost of driving is 1/20 of cost of gasoline. And no the insurance is about the same as gas car, depending on which EV you have. Tesla cost more in insurance, but I have a Volvo EV. As for depreciation, I don't care as I lease it.
2
@simoncrooke1644 less than equivalent gas cars. If you are in a country where EVs are more expensive than gas cars, you only have your governments to blame.
2
Not at all. Plenty of alternatives for coal
2
@adolfgerhardhermann5952 Not really, natural gas and nuclear is preferred, but even Coal fire power plant is more efficient and cleaner than ICE cars and emit less pollution due to better filtration and carbon capture at power plant. At least you are not emitting cancer causiing chemicals right next to where people are breathng , exercising and sleeping.
2
@nickmullen1666 wake up. solar and wind are already majority power in Europe and will be in the US very soon
2
@adolfgerhardhermann5952 yes but the rate of ice is decreasing and EV increasing. The trend is very clear.
2
@gaiustacitus4242 Yes, I agree that there is no one size fits all. In any advanced economies, 80-90% of population are urbanized, even in America. I agree that government should never impose all EV rules on everyone, but people living in cities with fixed commuting schedule daily, should not have any reason not to drive EVs instead of big gas guzzling trucks.
2
What does "part-exchanged" mean?
2
They really don't have a choice if they want to survive as a business.. Governments around the world are going to ban ice cars in 10 years or so time.
2
This really only hapens in America. Not even in China, where there are far more poor people do they commit this kind of crimes. Law and punishment for this type of property crimes are too linient in America, that's the problrem.
2
If you look closer into which EVs catch fire, they all use LG chem battery cells from Korea. LG Chem were also involved in Chevrolet Bolt EV recalls, and numerous fires involving Jaguar i-Pace and Volvo PHEVs. Panasonic cells and CATL's LFP batteries rarely catch fire, maybe in catastrophic collisions, but not during charging or on its own.
2
Elon Musk is making miscalculation. He is going all in into FSD / Robotaxi / AI robots. It'll be a big waste of money and epic failure. $TSLA stock will go sub $50
2
Lack of infrastructure is not the fault of EVs themselves
2
I don't think Biden is making any conscious decisions as he clearly cannot stay awake long enough to do so. He is just signing whatever his advisors feed to him.
2
@GardenDude1 nope.. Chinese coal powered plants are for manufacturing only.. Major urban centers are nearly 100% renewable.
2
@my3dviews most EVs don't allow you drive while plugged in
2
@Leibhaber83 be happy while you can. These Japanese junkers will go bk in near future.
2
You are fighting a losing battle.. EV dominance will gradually rise over time you can't stop it
2
Yes. Coal plants are much cleaner than your car
2
I think hybrids are more practical than pure BEVs especially in colder climates such as in Canada. I've had EVs before and they were just too cold to be in for a long time in winter. The waste heat from innefficient gas engine is a welcome "waste" that can be redirected to heat passenger cabin and melt snow on hood of the car
2
Toyota is just too lazy or dumb to innovate. So are you guys, afraid of change and live in the comfort of yesteryears
