Another often overlooked fact is that consumers of cars are not always rational, a lot of their purchase decisions are driven by emotional factors rather than logical ones.
A survey of top factors for considering buying an EV showed a huge contrast between Chinese and Western consumers. For Chinese consumers, #1 reason (over 50% of respondant) for buying an EV is driving dynamics, quick acceleration, quiet ride. For Western buyers, that's only 10% of reason, and financial incentive being the top reason, followed by environmental. Anecdotally, a lot of Western consumers who don't want EVs complain that EVs are souless, no fun to drive etc. Apparently, the noise and vibration of an ICE makes driving more fun and exciting for a large portion of Western population because ICE has been with us for such a long time and it's been culturally ingrained in people's psyche that loud sound equals powerful cars, quiet cars are boring.
