@mohlotf how did you get that? Plenty of BYD cars are going reliably over many years both in China and Australia.. you have such a narrow view of the world stuck in your closed country of the free and the brave.

I drive a PHEV and only use gas station 2 - 3 times year. 95% of miles are driven in EV mode as I plug in at home. But those 5% time when you really need further range out of town or have to drive through a winter blizzard without having to skimp on heating, having a gasoline engine as a backup really boosts your confidence. So I don't know why so many EV evangelists are so hell bent against PHEVs, when they can save you 95% of carbon emission and have just 20% of lithium battery as a pure EV.

@69memnon69 Disagree, EV is better if you have to drive long distance OFTEN, it cuts down your fuel cost much more than PHEV. PHEV is better if you only have to drive long distance less than 2 - 3 times a year like myself. so that 95% of my miles are in EV mode, I rarely need gas at all. If you only drive short distances (less than 50 miles say) mostly, why carry around a 250 mile capable battery? It's like you are only using 1/5 - 1/4 of usable battery, and the rest is dead weight, and will still degrade with time. In case of PHEV, the gasoline engine only wear out with usage, so if it's used minimally like myself, it will have indefinite life even after the car expires, the engine will probably can be taken out for resale value. The weight of engine is actually less than unsed portion of EV battery, so argument that PHEV carries the dead weight of engine does not hold up, BEV's unsed battery weight is much more significant if you are only driving short distances mostly.
