@ahah1785 Unfortunately, they don't make cars that last that long anymore, not even gas cars due to all the electronics and computer controls in the car. Even if mechanical parts last longer, the electronic control units will degrade. that's the engineering trade off you sacrifice longivety for efficiency and performance.

The irony is that EVs are even better suited for warmer weather in Spain and Italy than Norway.
3
It's not the same analogy.. EVs can't fully replace ixe cars for all use csees. Not yet with the current level of charging infrastructure and battery technology
2
@ahah1785 yeah but your government may tax the fuel so heavily that you won't be able to afford to run your fossil car anymore
2
@Mental707 True EVs still lack choices and prices are generally 10k more than equivalent gas models, but the gap is closing in fast with China starting to flood the market with cheap batteries. Just wait a year or two, if Western governments don't block Chinese batteries, prices of EVs could come down dramatically.

Regular commute is one thing. Handling unexpected emergencies when you need to a bit further when your EV battery level is low is quite another issue

@notverygoodguy Look, I know it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean it can never happen. In theory it could happen in right circumstances, especially if you live further away from a fast charger. Just because it didn't happen to you, doesn't mean it will never happen to anyone in any situation. What I have descirbed is very realistic and it CAN happen. Emergency is emergency, and if it happens when your EV battery is low then it takes longer to charge than to refuel a gas vehicle. Period. That's why no country including Norway has EVs for ambulances, firetrucks or military vehicles.

@Mental707 I don't know where you are but dacia spring is 21k euro before incentives in Netherlands

@fsclips Are you going to make sure the battery pack of your EV be recycled at end of life? Are you going to pay the necessary expense if required?
1
@fsclips you do know EV batteries are orders of magnitude larger than phones and laptops. The lead acid batteries in ice cars are 100% recycled for decades already. I know the lithium batteries are recyclable in theory but I'm practice just how much of the discarded EV batteries are recycled? It is a legit concern, not some all of the sudden conspiracy against Tesla. And no Tesla is not that much ahead of Chinese brand.. In fact they use Chinese batteries CATL and BYD.

@ThePilotGear fast charging station might be 15 minutes away in the opposite direction where you want to go. Assuming it's working and not occupied. Takes another 20 minutes to charge and 15 minutes to get back. You just wasted almost an hour. Sorry the emergency situation has expired
1
@notverygoodguy I guess it's because the charging infrastructure is much better in Norway. Where I live there are only two fast chargers in my city and 15 minutes away whereas there are 3 gas stations 5 minutes away.

Italy is one of those countries with car making heritage as is Germany, Japan and United States are all very slow in EV adoption.. because people have fond memories and attachments to their old rumbling engine cars and stories from their grandparents
