  1. I lived in Japan for 5 years. I can understand why they are so adamant about hydrogen vs battery EVs, other than charging speed. It's because as a culture they prefer tangible things. They prefer to "refuel" the car with some liquid or substance rather than "charge" the car with invisible electricity. The same reason they still prefer using fax machines, buy CDs/DVDs. Paper currency is still common place instead of credit card or mobile payments. They just like tangible things. They have hard time thinking about abstraction, makes average Japanese uncomfortable.

  2.  @asean1015  I don't know about Korea, but I lived in China, Japan and the US. I have never had to use fax in business transactions or government forms, but only occassionaly for doctor's prescription to pharmacy which I think is truly outdated as well. For mobile payments, China has been cashless for well over a decade, but to this day, you still need to carry some cash with you when you go out, as a lot of small businesses still only accept cash, and vending machines only takes coins. Even in the US and Canada, I haven't used cash for last 5 years or so, maybe only in farmer's market. As for EVs, it is a well established fact that carbon emission associated with EV and battery manufacturing is significantly less than the emission produced by ICE vehicles during its lifespan, by 3 - 5X. I think Toyota's solid state plan is purely marketting, I don't see it ever come to fruition. Sorry bud
