FSD without AGI is likely only level 3 - meaning, you dont have to touch the wheel, not even pay attention the road, but you still have to be awake in the car in case the car alerts you and wants you to take over when it encouters situation that needs human attention. You aren't just interacting with other cars and pedastrians in orderly fashion, there could be temporary road closures, you may have to interact with road workers or police officers redirecting traffic. You might be blocking someone trying to get into a parking space. He might gesture to you, or even step out of car trying to communicate with you verbally or with gesture. You will need AGI to properly handle these interactions, and that's still 10+ years away, for level 4 or level 5 (no driver or human in car at all, or passenger can just have a nap and wake up at destination).

Stats are misleading. Human accident rates are largely contributed by careless, drunk, distracted drivers. A perfectly alert, focused drivers are far far safer than "average" drivers, so the AI should aim to beat a good, sober, focused drivers rather than strive for just average accident rates that includes mostly drunk and distracted drivers.

@rxcited yeah true. But what I'm saying is that FSD should not compare itself to bad, drunk and distracted human drivers. As soon as it beats the average it calls job done. It's only good though if it can match accident rates by only sober and non distracted drivers. I'm not sure such statistics are possible

@rxcited if you include drink driver accidents as benchmark for FSD then you are setting a lower bar for the AI system. Is that what you want?

@rxcited however there is just one problem. Everyone thinks they are better than mediocre average driving skills. Few people will use it unless FSD really as good as expert drivers. It's just somewhere between a drunk driver and a good driver, it'll only be a assistance feature, no one will feel comfortable relinquish full control

Launching rockets, EVs aren't new and all that so called genius guy did was to make it more economical and mass production scale. It's far cry from trying to solve one if not THE most difficult problem of all time - re-create consciousness and human intelligence.
