@Pimpernicholas It's already happening here in Canada with carbon tax. Not just gasoline, but natural gas for home heat, basically everything related to fossil fuel. People are complaining, but Trudeau won't budge. I think it's a good idea, maybe they have to go even further to curb fossil fuel consumption. Just tax the heck out of gasoline then people will be forced to transition into EVs.

I agree offshore drilling should be banned. There is enough oil on land, there is no need to risk environemtal catatrophe.

@raymondschembri5042 Synthetic oil is also made from crude. So are plastics, rubber and vynil tubings. No Tesla cannot be manufactured without crude oil.

@acolon8999 but the counties are already banning sale of ice by 2035. I think that's more Draconian than taxing gasoline heavily. At least with high tax, you still have a freedom of choice enabled only by financial means. The latter makes something illegal that's less freedom.
