Very old technology from 70s. Very poor energy density. Sam are you running out of things to talk about

@zachmoyer1849 that's true but for grid storage there cheaper options than pressurized hydrogen. Salt water flow battery for example

@Ryan-ff2db I don't see why salt water batteries should cost more? It's just salt and water, should cost way less than high pressurized hydrogen tank? I'm baffled...

@Ryan-ff2db So in theory salt water batteries should cost less and more robust than nickle hydrogen battery at scale then.. The reason NASA developed nickle hydrogen batteries is mainly long cycle life as you cannot easily replace batteries in space. But for grid applications, salt water batteries can easily be replaced at very low cost once the infrastructure is setup, you just need to replace salt water! So it's no a brainer.

@billcichoke2534 obviously you are anti renewable. Why are you so against trying to be good to environment and keep the existing polluting energy systems?

@JohnBoen It's bit of a stretch to use EVs as mobile energy storage when we are still struggling to build out basic charging infrastructure let alone reverse vehicle to grid connections. some older homes need complete panel upgrades and even thicker transmission lines to allow /v2g connection.

@JohnBoen Nah.. Average people aren't really aware of the battery degradation. They will use their EVs to make money if V2G infrastructures are setup conviniently. Most poeple are short sighted especially ones need extra money, just look how many Uber / delivery drivers there are using their own vehicles not aware that their gig economy income barely covers their car's maintenance and depreciation if at all.

@JohnBoen Correct. Might I also add that people who lease their vehicles will take full advantage of this. Maybe car makers / dealerships will respond in the future by limiting charge / discharge cycles in addition to mileage on odometer for EVs if this becomes a widespread thing.
