Great.. Why doesn't Bill Gates build a nuclear plant in his backyard if he feels it's so safe?

@beautifulgirl219 safe only in statistical sense. Just like air travel is safer than driving. But residents nearby still have high anxiety because it's out of their control and radiation is invisible. Just like air travel gives some people anxiety because it's also out of your control. At least with driving you are in control you can control various risk levels such as speed, route you take. How much attention you pay , did you drink alcohol or not , safety equipment in vehicle etc. Etc. . Once nuclear reactor goes wrong it goes very wrong and catastrophic, just like airplane it rarely crashes, but when it does, you die and there is nothing you can do to prepare for it, unlike driving.

@beautifulgirl219 well, human emotions are a powerful thing. Without political support, democracies won't adopt nuclear as much as dictatorship nations like China.. Are you saying now that democracy is inferior because masses aren't logical and decisions should be left for experts only?

@beautifulgirl219 Good luck doing that. All I'm pointing out is that human emotions are irrational. People who are afraid of heights will always avoid flying even though they know it' perfectly safe. Even if you succeed in educating the masses about the safety of nuclear power, they still don't want any nuclear plants near their neighbourhood. Perhaps they will be built in remote locations, but the transmission loss will be great. Still better than fossil fuels IMO.
