Volvo makes good cars but the cost is also high. They crash an XC90 every month to test its safety. No other car companies are as OCD about safety as Volvo.

I think Volvo might be an exception. They have come close to extinction before and inovated their way out. And their legendary focuse on safety will always have a core fans like myself. Their EV transition is also the most aggressive among legacy autos

@davidnorton5887 and I'm not just talking about cheap obvious ones like Jeep, but you'd be surprised to find luxury brands like BMW x5 and Audi Q3 keeps failing basic crash tests by Euro encap and iihs. How about Toyota 4runner? Still fail at moderate overlap crash test. Volvo not only score high on iihs and government crash tests but they crash one of their vehicles every month from different angles just to see how else safety can be improved. Only Volvos phev locates batteries in the middle of the car to minimize the chance fire when crashed. They go beyond what's required by iihs and government. On paper it might score the same as Toyota RAV4 but in real life crashes Volvo is much safer then average cars with the same safety score

@davidnorton5887 not really true. There are still many unsafe cars in production today by well known brands.

@sender5804 I'm not talking about BMW stock. I was choosing between x5 and XC90 and was surprised a $100k BMW X5 SUV didn't even pass crash test. Stock picking is difficult, who knows what future will hold. But I think a lot of people just assume because it's a premium class car, safety is a given, but often is not true.
