I see bifurcation of China completing electrification but the West falling behind in 5 years or so, with exception of Norway perhaps. The West will still be filled with gas gazlers in 5 years. Just look at Toyota sales globally they are still selling ice cars very well in the US and Europe, but in China. The western people love their rumble sound of ice, and Americans will never allow Chinese car inport with the way trade tension is going

You will be surprised how stubborn and stupid senior management of legacy autos are. Especially in Japanese corporate culture. They feel they are the best and smartest.

@justinr9753 I expect 95% of EV companies to disappear in the next 10 - 20 years. It's quite normal for a new industry. there were hundreds of car companies before the big 3 consolidation. This is happening right now in China, some over 100+ EV brands, but probably 50 of them will go bust this year. In the West, it's pathetic, only less than a dozen EV manufacturers, lack of variety and choices for consumer, and lack of experimentation and competition in the space. China will no doubt lead the EV revolution. It's pretty much set in stone.

@huemann7637 I think they are building more power plants both nuclear and conventional as well as world's largest supply of solar and wind equipment. I don't worry about infrastructure part of China.

@EnriqueThiele True. Europe is doing a lot better than America. Mainly due to availability of choices - they have Chinese imports, and many affordable brands. I worry mostly North American markets, dominated by just Tesla - no Chinese imports here, no affordable EVs, limited choices, also horrible infrastructure. What happens when government subsidies and incentives run out? It's not going to last forever. In the end, EVs need to be price competitive, not just as new cars, but also longevity and reliability as well. Currently, a major downside of owning older EVs are repair cost. The way Tesla is doing business is not making them like disposable items, not giving third party shops ability to repair older Teslas. For now, it helps their bottom line, but in long run, it may affect older Tesla's resale value, and suvsequently, new buyers.
