  1. Reliability. People think old proven technology is less likely to go wrong than new unproven ones. Trade efficiency for reliability. That's always been Toyota's philospophy. Or maybe just laziness.

  2. BYD and most other Chinese EVs are not even available for sale in North America, even if you wanted to pay 100% tariff.
