I'd be surprised if US government allowed any Chinese brand cars in the US soil. They will amend NFTA agreement to block BYD.

@KP-xi4bj how many confirmed BYD fires by Bev not PHEV don't count . Tesla had 200 spontaneous fires as of 2023. Chevy bolt recalled all 69000 due to fire risk.. is BYD that much worse statistically than iconic Western brands?

@PyroShields Buses do not affect GM / Ford / Toyota jobs. passenger cars will. the US government will block any Chinese passenger cars into US market, no matter where they are built.

@PyroShields That's right. US government wants to protect Japanese car companies also because they are US allies to help "contain" China. I suspect both US and Japan will continue to lag behind in EV adoption, compared to China and Europe.

@litestuffllc7249 Chevrolet Bolt EV has more chance of fire with LG Chem batteries. BYD has passed European and Australian crash tests with flying colors, way better than your average Toyotas and Ford cars in America. In fact, BYD's crash test scores are on par with the likes of Tesla and Volvo. Guess you didn't know that did you? As for fires, people like to sensationalize every single fire incident, just like in the early days of Tesla. Every time a Tesla caught fire, it made the headline news. Did you know as of 2023, 198 Teslas caught fire spontaenously? They no longer make it to the news do they? Did you know over 3800 gasline cars caught fire every year? that's 1/2000 chance. Do they make it to news? Nope. GM had to recall all 69000 Chevrolet Bolt EV for defective LG Chem batteries because they keep catching fire. I'd trust Chinese brand EV way way more than Korean, or any western brands using Korean LG Chem batteries.

@litestuffllc7249 Did you know BWM recalled 90,000 vehicles due to risks of spontaenous fire risk in 2022? So your gas car fire has to be damaged is wrong. Many many petrol cars catch fire spontaenously when parked, Average ICE cars have just as many electronics and computers on them as EVs in modern times. And most fires start with electrical short circuit. As for hand picking vehicles for crash test, Euro NCAP is an independent test, they purchase vehicles at random to conduct test, not asking permissions from manufacturers. As for faking crash tests with hand picked vehicles, none gets better honor than Toyota. Also did you forget VW diesel gate scandal? People are too eager to jump on stereotypical image of poor quality of Chinese knockoffs right? But very quickly forget poor quality and outright cheating by the Western companies. Consumers complains about all sorts of issues. According to carcomplaints . co m, top models received complaints are Ford explorer, Toyota Rav4 etc. Go figure Read them stories, some are quite shocking and scary.

@litestuffllc7249 those BMWs are all ice cars involving pcv valve heater short circuiting. The point is that wires are everywhere in modern cars and short circuit risk is always there whether the car is running or not. The stats show ice cars catch fire much more frequently than EVs. Some EV models equipped with defective batteries such as LG chem catch fire more but not BYD or CATL batteries. If you say they can't be trusted then you can't trust any Western car safety either.. The fact is BYD cars are put to test under the save standard as any other Western car brands and got 5 stars should not be disputed.

@KP-xi4bj it's from Tesla fires website. I didn't make it up.. still far fewer than ice car fires about 3000-4000 per year. The only official report I found on the number of BYD fires is business new website.. Only 11 between 2020-2022

@litestuffllc7249 yes they can.. GM did to their 69000 bolt EVs at enormous cost . I know you like to single out BYD because it's Chinese but turn the other way if it's a Western brand

@litestuffllc7249 just go look at EV fires incidents report on Wikipedia. every EV maker has had spontaneous fires, BYD being one of the highest sales number is surely on the list but so is every other EV makers. Not a good argument for saying China can only make cheap low quality junk.

@matthewryonadams So Americans benefited from cheap Chinese labor for decades, now they are moving up the value chain all of the sudden you are panicking. You underestimated Chinese innovation, thinking all they are capable of is doing cheap manual labor and make cheap dollarstore and walmart stuff. Surprise surprise, they are surpassing you in EV, solar panels, and soon AI, chips and biotech as well in the next 10 years.
