  1. Statistics doesn't show the full picture. People are scared of nuclear than coal even though coal contributes to more deaths and health problems because coal is clearly visible and can be evaded whereas nuclear is invisible. You can choose not to work in coal mining industry or live near it, and install air filttration in your house, and wear masks when you cannot avoid being near the emission etc. Nuclear is invisible it's much harder to guard yourself against it. Same with airplane and cars. You feel more nervous in flight because you are not in control whether you will get in an accident or not. In car, at least you have a sense of being in control, you can drive more carefully, avoid situations or times or locations where accidents can occur more frequently. being alert, don't drink. etc. Sure you cannot avoid all accidents no matter how careful you are, but statistics accounts for all accidents, and many of them are careless driving or driving under intoxication. To be completely fair, deaths from airlines should only be compared to auto accidents result from not-at-fault situations.
