Japan is clean? Give me a break, 88% of electricity comes from burning fossil fuel. No EV adoption. This country only makes it look clean, but polluting the world around it. Also the highest pesticides use and plastic waste. Looking for vegan and organic food in Japan? Good luck.

@susannpatton2893 it's good that they teach children to gather litters to keep clean. But just hiding the garbage doesn't mean they are generating less garbage. Japan is still a very polluting county. But they are perceived to be clean because of presentation at surface level. Just wanted to point out don't judge a book by the cover

@susannpatton2893 that is very true. I often find myself thinking what can I make use of this before I throw anything away.. even though it's probably saves more time to throw it away and buy a new one when I need it in the future but I still keep some old stuff just in case I can make use of it in an unexpected way. Before you buy anything new, trying think what you can do with your existing things to achieve the same purpose that would otherwise end up in garbage.

@tom5858 I'm not going into explanaing EVs are still vastly more environmentally friendly than gasoline cars even taking into account of production process. As for practicality, Imany high density countries such as China and Singapore have more EV adoption. They somehow make it work to use EVs while living in apartment Japanese car makers such as Toyota are also against EVs and prefer hybrid instead. I just think Japanese society are ruled by elders who value tradition more than new trends and innovation. Japanese are lagging behind in many things. It's ;aughable they still use cash payments in most places, while the rest of world have moved on to cashless payments. Also many people still buy CDs / DVDs while the rest of world have been streaming for 10+ years.

Don't get me wrong. I think Japan is a beautiful country and rich in culture. But admiring it is clean, I have to point out that it is only clean in appearance. It is a heavily polluted and polluting country and the food looks pretty and taste good, but unless it's natural food, most of pre-packaged, processed foods are packed with presticides and preservatives, much higher concentration than other countries.
