I assume his handler was as shocked as anyone, when the tories began to press the self destruct button, as he'd completed his mission to rid the party of Corbyn, foremost, then any other Palestine supporters and also any Socialists, so he was prepared to sit on the byline and be the PM-that-never-was, but circumstances dictated otherwise.
