The WHO were publicly called out by the Mexican govt, in June, for lying and attributing the death of a man, in Mexico, to Mpox. Less than a week later a CDC spokesperson falsely claimed every case of Mpox results in death. It's an old policy, usually employed commercially. I call it the What will the market bear? principle. You put the price up on a product or service. If folk still pay, fine. If not, you drop the price, wait awhile, then raise it again. I've observed it happening for decades. This market is different, but they're applying the same principle - How many lies will the market bear, before the people stop buying them? Eight billion folk and one hundred and twenty-seven cases. Can you say SCAM demic?!
