While they were being governed properly and in the interests of the Russians living there Russia had no problem and saw no point in disillusioning the UkraiNazis, but as soon as the neoNazi regime was installed in 2014 and the azovs began committing war crimes Putin warned the US and NATO, who obviously thought he was bluffing.
