  1. Redundancy is deliberately built into all goods. It began with light bulbs, then cars to finally cut right across the board on every manufactured item. It doesn't pay any maker to produce an item that lasts and the habit began and was perfected in the US, as a little research reveals. Feel free, however, to blame China, if it makes you feel better.
