  1. Chuggers (charity muggers) can often be seen accosting the public, trying to emotionally blackmail them into giving to a specific charity on a regular basis, via direct debit. Last time I checked, many years ago, circa 2010, the Chuggers were paid £15 per hr. They'd do one charity one day, another charity the next, interspersed with selling Virgin deals or other companies' deals. I'd have been embarrassed, putting gullible folk on guilt trips, while pocketing that sort of cash, but it takes allsorts to make a world, I guess. I once gave to a British charity, via direct debit, but ceased, after four years, when I discovered they had decided to fund the majority of their projects overseas without notifying donors. Nowadays, I give only to local charities, where I can keep an eye on how my donations are spent, so I can rest assured it helps local people. Charity begins at home, not funding the ostentatious homes of the rich living off the misery of others.
