@Zardoz4441 Nothing is "built to last forever" now. Buildings may be designed for a life of 50 years or less. Those that are still standing are "over-engineered," like old cars that still run.

When the bridge was built over the houses, I presume they lost value, making it difficult for the owners to sell and buy somewhere safer. Was there compensation, or were they just assured they were safe?
