  2. When Sinn Féin won a majority of Irish seats in the House of Commons, they did not go to Westminster to pledge allegiance: instead they set up the first Dáil, illegally, in Dublin. When Westminster set up separate Northern and Southern Irish parliaments, the new SF MPs all formed the second Dáil Éireann, again illegally. The new British parliament of Southern Ireland (in Dublin) sat for part of a day with three MPs before it closed for ever. The SNP already has the vast majority of Scottish seats at Westminster, but they did not campaign for immediate independence. If they do that, either at a national or at a Scottish election, that will be as good as an "advisory" referendum. It won't be "legal," but freedom will have been taken, not given. There will still be a United Kingdom of Southern Britain and Northern Ireland, but they'll have to take the blue out of the Union Jack.

The referendum was fought on the basis that an independent Scotland would be thrown out of the European Union, while the English Brexiteers kept quiet about their plans for the UK to leave the EU. The "unique selling point" of the referendum was the importance of remaining in the EU. That was a false prospectus.

  4.  @georgemorgan8787  Fortunately, the Anglophile minority in Scotland are not localised enough for partition to be an option for the Colonial Office ministers. As regards the "constitution," Scotland's is not the same as England's: sovereignty remains with the people, not parliament or the crown. If necessary, the "Four Estates" could be reconvened in some form to decide on new arrangements. They have not met for 333 years. After Brexit, the Scottish economy tanking would hardly be a problem. Before the referendum, there was talk in England of actively sabotaging an independent Scotland's economy, but we have seen that the English have become past masters at shooting themselves in the foot. The threat of starving Ireland into submission didn't work, nor will it for Scotland.
