The Tories fully expect to lose this general election. Sunak is positioning them for the aftermath. National Service is a short-term ploy to spike the guns of their opponents on the right, the Reform Party, by appealing to their nostalgic elderly supporters, and those who hate young people. They'll never have to implement it, and the interim leader will scrap the "policy."

@tgfabthunderbird1 Another point Sunak has stolen from the right-wing shock jocks is urging the children of the poor to go to "trade schools" rather than further education. The British version is the proposed crack down on "Mickey Mouse" degrees. Again, since they're going to lose, there's no need to flesh out their plans.
