I never realised that LinkedIn was meant to be a recruitment website. I joined after an email from my old university's alumni association said we should all enroll. I had wrongly assumed that it was a means for Edinburgh people to connect (i.e. Link - Edin, not Linked - In). I had put up my position and educational history because they asked for that and although I was not in an industry where it was customary to recruit online, was surprised to receive invitations to consider wildly inappropriate positions which must have come from recruiters who had set their parameters too widely. Presumably they do not look at the individual profiles before casting their net. I am "linked" to a handful of people I knew at school or university and a couple of cousins, and it seems that I am automatically invited to "link" with everyone they link with. I remain a member, because there are occasionally interesting things to see there.

Maybe you should accept, if merely having one more connexion is going to be mutually beneficial.
