@ellieramseyer If you NEED one, you get it inmediately. If you WANT one on a whim, but it`s really not necesary, of course you have to wait! You see, our healthcare system does not care who was first in the line or who has more money. WE PRIORITIZE THE PEOPLE ACORDING TO THEIR MEDICAL NEEDS. Can that mean that you have to wait, while other, more urgent cases, are taken care first? Yes......if you are not okay with this, you can always get a private insurance......after paying your taxes to support the public system, of course! On another note, the average waiting time for an MRI in Spain is THIRTY DAYS, not 300 .......check your facts......

@ellieramseyer I am spaniard, and never have I eaten horsemeat (some people do, and others not), BUT if I had to choose, I would eat exclusively horse meat for the rest of my life, if the alternative was US-chemically trated meat, from animals fed with transgenic crops.......no thanks!. On the bullfighting thing, I have to admit that you are right!

We don`t do such things here. We wouldn`t bill you, even if you were an ilegall inmigrant. You see, we consider this to be an INVESTMENT, not an expense. Keeping the people that live with us sane, makes them more prodcutive, fix problems that would have become more serious and MORE EXPENSIVE, if leave unatended, and overall, makes you less prone to be infected by virus or bacteria. Becasue you see, infections, don`t care, if you are a tourist, a national, a legal inmigrant, an ilegal one, or the descendant of "Don Pelayo" in person. Fixing your healthcare problems, is, indeed an act of self-defense........

The private hopspitals also simply focus on the more profitable treatments......If you go there with somethig SERIOUS, they send you to the next public hospital........

The embryo of our healthcare system was established as early as 1908 (Ley de accidentes y Trabajo),and improved over the years, till the second republic released a law creating basically what we have today. WHAT HAPPENED, was that the traitor Franco and his fascist friends caused a civil war that prevented the proyect to be implemented, and destroyed any healthcare system so thoroughly (together with the rest of Spain), that it took 25 years, till we could get back to the point we were in 1936. THAT`S what happened..........

NEVER travel anywhere without a good insurance that covers ALL the costs, with no payments on your side. If you can`t afford it, you can`t afford to travel!
