I would have probably, too, knowing very well that if I didn`t, the nice folks of the GESTAPO would "take care", not only of me, but also of any adult closely related to me, while the children would be taken over by the state, and educated in specialied facilities, where they would in become "good germans" (cannon fooder, and human breeding stock). Also, a lot of them were well aware of the treatment they had given to the soviet population in their invasion, and knew that the average soviet soldier was more then eager to pay them back, with interest.........

  3.  @billyosullivan3192  Versailles was a good excuse. Quite like the embargo on Cuba, that enables the cuban goverment to blame basically EVERY problem they have, on this particulary circumstance : "Look,look! You are having difficulties because that evil, evil embargo (Versailles treaty), and certianly NOT because my politics are nuts, I have basically no idea of what I am doing, and we are firmly steering into the abyss!" Yep!

By then, France and "Germany" had been doing this several times (since the first Franco-Prussian war), imposing evermore harsh conditions on the loosing side, guaranteeing that they would come back in some decades, aiming to "correct" the situation. Versailles was just buisness as usual. Despite the 80.000.000 dead people of WII we would bestill quareling, if it were not for the A-bomb, and the fact that the eurpean contenders became second-league-powers, and got from policy-makers, to followers, united under a new protector ( superpower-USA), to face a new threat (superpower-USSR), quite like the Greek city states, who waged endles wars, till the Macedonians arrived, put an end to "all that BS" and decided to face the Persian Empire once and fo all......

  5. I sometimes wonder if this is an efect of the high casualties of their own civil war (that was basically, a slaughter).......Would not be the first time a traumatic event shapes the collective character and mindset of a nation (like the mongol invasion of what is now Russia)
