They are amending their constitution right now, to make military funding an exception to their economical "Golden rule" (that forces them to execute a balanced financial policy).
Furthermore, they have decided that it is more important to fight Putin than inflation, and had agreed to common european debt, and to exempt defenese-spending from the european debt-rules.......If you would know a litlle bit about german national character, you could see that this is as dead serious as it gets.
If they are willing to break this three tabus (inflation, debt rules and common european debt) they are ready to put their people in uniform, and have them ready to march through Poland to fight Russia.
This is basically like a very religious and peacefull person, suddenly renouncing all his principles, and saying "OK, I am going to hell, but you all are going to come with me"
And if Poland, Germany and France are on the same paige, the rest of the EU will fall in line, shout "Jahwoll", and march to the east. Even my own president (Spain) who said there would be no increase in the defense budget, is right now backtraking and anouncing a never seen increase......and we and Portugal are as far away from Russia as it gets........
They have woken a sleeping and chilling giant. And they will live to regret it........

We already did. Your problem is, that the benefits of that payments went to your big coporations, wich, for some reason I cannot fanthom, you refuse to tax in order to give the money back to the tax-payer.
Basically YOU pay the bill, and your corporations get the benefit.
You can expect the sales of your weapon industry to plumet in the next decade as we focus on local-made, cheaper, and more efficient products, wich we already have in small numbers,, but we simply cannot mass-produce (for now), because we have always bought 60% of our material to the US (not because it was better or cheaper, but because we wanted to have good relationships with the US).
There was never a market (with few excptions) for EU made weapons, because of the dominant position of the military hardware and knowledge coming from the US, for political reason (you protect us, we buy your stuff)
Of course, you can always get your goverment to buy MORE weapons for your armed forces (wich you will need, if you pretend to fight China on your own) to make up for loosing your first foreign market, but guess who will be paying for that extended military budget......it will not be the european tax-payer........
You see, when you, the people from the US say you want see us spending more on defense, WHAT YOU REALLY MEAN is that you want see us buying more of your weapons.
But why buy weapons from an unreliable ex-ally?

On the bright side, if goods are produced closer to where they are produced, this will decrase transportation, and ironically, help combat climat-change....the same climate change they don`t belive in......
Other countries will implement tarifs over US-goods also (a fact Us-citizens tend to overlook), and therefore will also produce more goods locally, increasing the effect......
Sensibly, goods should be taxed for every km they have to be shipped to where they are consumed, but general national tarifs are a step in the good direction.......What amazes me, is that they weren`t willing to endure higher prices to save the planet, but are willing now, because they prefer us beeing all poorer together than letting some foreigner having his benefit...........SMH

You are acting as you were making us a favour and not getting any compensation for it. Truth is, US-dominance ensures your corporations a privileged position when it comes to make deals.
Your problem is that this benefits go to your big corporations, wich YOU choose not to tax, and redistribute to the ones who are footing the bill for your world-dominance (the US-tax payer).
As a citizen of the EU, just be advised that for EVERY tariff you impose on us, you will be subject to an equivalent one. A lot of US-citizens seem to think that, while they will consume local produced goods, they will be still able to export THEIR products to OUR markets without any problems (good luck with that).
Indeed, if you loose your grip over Europe (was about time), we can finally persue our own needs and goals, produce our own weapons (instead of buying yours), and trade with more realiable and willing partners...... so, godbye and good ridance!
First thing in the list should be buying russian gas, and stop buying the US-gas, wich we are forced to pay right now at four times the price of the russian one........

I am from Spain. Here our soldiers not only get paid poorly, but also get fired when they turn 45, and thrown totally unprepared into a job-market that doesn`t want them, and deems them obsolete once they turn 50.....
For the first time in our modern history, some public civil jobs have been offered to this people, but I think they are few (some 20 or so), and the requirements for that jobs are so specific, that nobody meets them.
So, if you tell a 20 something man that he will be serving in a sh*tty and underpaid job for the next 25 years, and then send to the curb without any help or future, you should not be surprised if not only you do not meet your recruitment-objeticst, but also, that the only ones applying to the army are the ones that couldn`t land any job at all (not even waiter), plus some few patriots......
We also fill our ranks with latino- recruits (from south and central America), who can aplly so to spanish nationality....... But Rome did something similar back in the days, and it didn`t end well........

@SwikingSwe True, BUT, the chinese CCCP basicaly don`t give a f*ck about its own people, as long as they think they can screw them and get away with it.
Also, the chinese goverment, has represive tools at its dsposal to confront unrest raising form economic dificulties, that the US-goverment can`t even consider, because it would cause a revolution........
It`s like the people of Gibraltar trying to explain to me that my goverment is never going to close the border, because it would significally impact 15.000 direct employments on my country, and indirectly around 150.000 lives.........Dude my goverment DON`T GIVE A SH*T ABOUT THIS PEOPLE........and the oposition will even less, once they get to govern

@-SonZetta- TRUE. We PAY for the privilege of beeing your vas.....sorry, your allies.
Do they think WE LIKE to buy your gas at four times the price we could get it from the russians?
Or that we are HAPPY to donate our military stuff to Ukraine and then purchase the stuff we need to replace it form them AT FULL PRICE?
Do you think we gave up having our own "GPS" system (Galileo-initiative), and instead built a subsidary system of them, giving them the key to the switch-off bottom becuase our LOVE for you?
THEIR CORPORATIONS are the one benefiting from our military dependence......the fact that THEY refuse to tax them and redistribute the money to the average US-taxpayer (you know, the one footing the bill for our "protection") is THEIR problem, not ours.
Once THEIR military umbrella vanishes, we will be able to stop giving them preferential treatment, buy things from were we get them cheaper, and produce and use our own weapon-systems, ensuring that the benefits and jobs derived from our protection-needs, stay in our countries, and are NOT transfered into the US.
