I can`t remember the source, but suposedlly, the english wine was so popular, that in the warm climate-period of the middle age (just before the little ice age), FRENCH wine producers complained several times to their overlords because the english imports were ruining them. (But lets be serious: When have the french NOT complained about the english?) Some of this documents have survived aparently till our days.
