I don´t think they are amining to defeat the russian army. They want to defeat the russian public opinion. If they can create the IMPRESSION that there is a stallmate (with some back and forth on the terrain), and force Putin to make one ore two more mobilizations, without achieving any apparent succes, perhaps civil moral will colapse....... The thing is Ukraine is already in an all-or-nothing war effort, while Russia still pretends it can win this war, and somehow mantain a semblance of normal living...... The ukranians side only hope is, that in the face of a total russian mobilization, the russian people decide that perhaps Ukraine is not as important as they thought initially. And all that before the ukranian army colpases do its own heavy losses........ They aim probably more fore a "Tet"-offensive than an "operation Zitadelle"
