You are right, western Tanks were designed to operate in the plains of west Germany, (with no mud season and a lot of "Autobahn" , proper bridges capable of sustaining their weight, and local industrial facilities, able to provide the maintenance this complicated tools need) in a DEFENSIFE war against an invading soviet force.
Althoug the USSR is no longer, the western countries keep on building Tanks adecuate to operate in their OWN home-territory, or, at most, in that of their allies. (An exception to this is the US-army, who simply brings whatever they may need, with them, wherever that place may be)
My country, for example, operates its own version of the "Leopard" (more similar aparently to the shwedish version than to the german one), do to its more complicate orography.
Ukraine, is for all practical purposes a "soviet-union" enviroment (roads, bridges, maintenance crews, clima, soil, and what not).
Blaming a tool because it operates poorly in an enviroment, it has not been designed for, is not reasonable!

To be fair, the Tank that is able to navigate the ucranian (or russian) mud-season is yet to be invented.
Russian tanks face similiar issues, and the russian offensives will slow down to a stop, once the mud-season hits the region in all its glory.
Of course, they will also use this time to reorganize, reinforce, and resupply their troops, and will be prepared to start again their offensive movements as soon as the mud dries out, becoming consinstent earth, capable to endure the weight of a tank, allowing this vehicles (and all other) to operate outside ov the paved roads.......
