  1. To be fair, everyone thought that ukraine would colapse quick and swiftly. Don`t get me wrong, they are still going to loose, but the fact that they hold for so long, is as surprising as insane..... I sincerly think that they miscalculated the reception the ukranian people would give them. Probably some inteligence officer (who surely is cleaning toiletes in a weather-station in the artic right now) told Putin that people would show up to cheer the advancing russian troops, and that there was no need to deploy their troops in fighting-formations......

Aparently, despite Avdiivka beeing a frontline-position almost since 2014, the comanders in charge of that sector had negleted to build a second line of defence in the rear to fall back to this positions in case of a russian break-through (remember how the russian defence in the "summer offensive" consisted in layer after layer of killing-zones and defensive positions?). The last minute-attemps to built such second line of defence will probably not stop the russians, and unless the rusian army faces logistical problems, they have now the oportunity to push the ukranians to the next "natural" defensive positions (probaly a concatenation of urban areas) Also, the elite "3rd brigade" is the reconstituted "Azov-batalion", a "controversial" unit full of "nostalgic" people with "viking" and "hindu"-themed tatoos on their bodies (I got the expression and information from the channel HistoryLegends)
