I still cannot understand why a counteroffensive anounced with enough time to allow the enemy to built the largest and depest defensive lines since the battle of Kursk, and launched without proper air or anti-air support, could fail......... It`s beyond any logic.........

Let`s be real here. The ukranian gains at the begining of the war, were possible becuase the sheer incompetence and lack of planing of the russian leadership, that thought (for whatever reason), that they had just to show up, accept an unconditional surrender, and prepare a victory-parade. Aparently, they ACTUALLY thought that the population and the army would welcome them as their liberators...... The counteroffensive of Jerson, on the other side, was victorious, because the contratcs of the russian volunteers expired massively after 5 months of war (the russians actually thought it wouldn`t take longer than that), and they simply packed their belongings and went home, leaving the frontline understaffed, do to the failure of the russian army to provide replacements for all this people leaving at the same moment. NATO-intellingece noticed it, and they used this very unique and punctuall weakness to kick the russian in balls, seizing a good chunk of previously occupied territory. BUT, the russians learned from their mistakes, as the failurre of the summer-offensive shows, and unless they commit serious mistakes, Ukraine will be unable to launch succesfull offensives in the near future........

@СергейИванов-ц9б2в Spain (navigating through a lot of western propaganda trying to find some bits of information) And I know there were other factors involved, like the fact that the russians in Jerson fought with their back to the river, and had to drag their supplies through bridges that were systematically targeted by the newly adquired inteligent-precise-auminition provided by the NATO. Or that the ukranians could flood the area any time, if they wanted, a fact that hung over the russian troops of the area like a sword of Damocles Finally I think that what decided the russians to retreat from Jerson, was that they aknowledged that they had been basically caught with their pants down to their ankles and in a crouched position, and that if they didn`t retreat orderly NOW, they would have to do it in some weeks with a lot of losses....... (although I do NOT envy the guy who had to deliver the bad news to Putin........) A lesson Ukraine has yet to learn........ I just wanted to limit the size of the post :)
