  1.  @luissantiago147  The only good job in aviation is a pilot. If any young person is interested in aviation, I would never steer them to be a mechanic. It might cost more up front, and pay might be low for the first year-ish, but the long term is leaps and bounds above a mechanic. You are talking on order of $10's of millions of dollars more pay over a career, with much less daily hassle. Be a pilot, not a mechanic should be a bumper sticker.

  5. I would never, ever, ever recommend any young kid with a brain become a mechanic. You will NEVER get the pay nor the respect that all Numpty's that sit on their fat a$$es get. You don't get paid for busting your knuckles, you don't get paid for working on people's FILTHY crap. You don't get paid for aching backs, bad knees, or arthritic hands...all consequences of being a mechanic. Being a mechanic SUCKS.

Insurance costs and the fact that insurance companies are scamming to pay less and less on covered claims, using cheap parts (for ex: replacing a factory oem sport strut with a monroe strut from Autozone, with no consideration about matched sets and handling) is enough for me to drive cheap hoopty cars with only liability insurance. I can afford more than the average American but the reason I can is I don’t buy new vehicles.

  16. I’m not buying, my girlfriend says I should buy a new truck (2013 Tundra 4.6 V8). No rust (woolwax every year). She doesn’t understand the current situation or the value of a V8 with only 130k miles. Sorry hon, i’m not trading my truck.
