  2. Quick note: 'fast lane' means 'going the speed limit'. The right most lane is for vehicles that can't/won't maintain the speed limit and/or have a trailer. The 'passing lane' varies from state to state and is, frankly, stupid. You still can't legally exceed the speed limit, and 99% of traffic is doing the speed limit or (illegally) 5-10mph over. It's just artificially reducing the size of the highway and slowing traffic.
