@Titanoooo what in the hell are you on about? Also, I sad Leto was a decent joker, not the best. In the longer directors cut he's significantly better than in the cinematic cut.
His whole mailing people sex toys and such schtick was stupid annoying, but they did actually follow the joker's story, just updated to the modern world. A character like that created modern day is much more likely to be like leto's joker than say, Nicholson's joker. Leto did a fairly decent job of acting. It was a bit over the top, but joker is an over the top character.
Look at phoenix' joker. It has zero to do with any of the creation stories used so far.
Excluding ledger's joker which was a little different:
He isn't any sort of criminal, which all of the other jokers were.
All of the other jokers started out relatively sane and were driven insane by a disfiguring accident. For which they blamed batman.
Phoenix' joker was just an ordinary crazy guy. If you changed a couple names and changed his costume a bit no one would think of it as a movie related to batman. Hell, he even became the joker while Bruce wayne was a child, which is completely different. In all the others he good reason to blame batman for his disfigurement, which is why he's so obsessed with batman in the first place.
On top of which, the ending scene leaves the door open for most or all of the movie to have been nothing more than a schizophrenic delusion.
Why do people say Leto's joker was bad?
Ok, he was annoying on set. Has zero to do with the actual movie.
His gang banger persona, which is more appropriate to a modern interpretation. It isn't the forties anymore, and him being an italian mafioso doesn't make as much sense.
The tattoos are wholly appropriate for this interpretation of the character.
Last is his relationship with Harley. Ok. For that we have to compare it to the animated series where she was introduced. The creation story for harley is spot on.
People say he cared for her too much, but I disagree. It's true that Hammill's joker treated her as somewhat disposable, however, he also rescued her on several occasions. In the episode where harley left him to try going straight he was beside himself without her.
Every bit of that makes sense.
So yes, Leto and the interpretation he acted out was fine. Not the best by any stretch of the imagination, but decent.
Phoenix' version was clearly the worst 'joker' even though it was brilliantly acted and written. It's a great movie, just not a great batman universe movie.
