"It's not a big gap", agreed but there is much more 'gap' than bridge support yet the ship still managed to hit main support right on the nose... What are the chances? Well, they'd originally be aiming for the big gap so that brings only two supports into play. Yet there's still more gap than not. My investigation would be starting with the bridge maintenance records to see how near the end of its life the structure was and then be following the money from there. I note that all the commentary channels are running with the "lights going out so it must have lost power" narrative which is a huge assumption. Perhaps the lights-out is just bread-crumbing and you're all falling for it...?
