  1. ALL of Canada's mass passenger ground travel and even air travel has been phased into a dismal state with lowest quality on the planet, and to some extent, even including India, Russia and China !?!?!? There are freight-train hopping videos on Youtube for the Toronto to Thunder Bay run !?!? Your example is far from the worse of the passenger train runs along that corridor. As of last year the Toronto to Quebec part of that corridor had 3 trains per day every day!! So you're lucky!! I just spent 2 years trying to travel between Belleville and Toronto. An hour or so, car trip, up to 2 hrs on train. A nightmare if you are trying to make a bus or plane connection. Most of Northern Canada has no passenger service except to Hudsons Bay/Churchill area .... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h28Cb3b9gqk. In 2013 it cost me less than $200 to travel from Ottawa to Halifax which is a 24 hr, overnight only, trip in a cramped and crowded sitting position. I was so physically destroyed by it I decided to get a sleeper for the return. What a shock!!! it was almost almost $500 CDN to be able to sleep laying down. And those prices are now much higher. Last year I checked prices to go across Canada (4 days) it was between about $1000 to $2000 CDN! Depending on how, or if, you want to sleep. And unlike flying the food is not free, and it costs like it is in short supply. Gouging the captive consumer!!! {The bus is the same length trip for a few hundred $ (no actual sleeping available and only, really suitable for meth-heads now) } The only reason I ground travelled was to eliminate gravity as a threat!! :)) I recently moved from Belleville to Thunder Bay. I had to rent a limo to get me to the airport in toronto on time it was the same price as the train, just under $200 CDN, But I was on time without spending a lot more money for a hotel in Toronto. No trains north from Toronto anymore, so I had to fly and that's becoming a "sardine can" nightmare in itself. I will add that Ontario Northland now has replacement Bus runs to take over for the dying Greyhound system, the western provinces have their own Bus services Trains may go the same way in the near future.
