Excellent. I have a 2012 4Cy Camry with 137K miles now! So glad you made this video and it felt like talking to you in person. Like you mentioned, I had to have the TC replaced due to the shudder I experienced during 75K fluid change. The power door locks are also shot exactly as you mentioned. I was blaming my little one thinking he must have poured juice or something. Good to know that it is the actuators failing. Been replacing transmission fluid every 60K. It does burn some oil between 5K/6M oil changes especially after trips. I top it off once a month. Is it a good idea that I change the interval to 3K miles/3 months to keep the car running longer? Thanks again!

I see Scotty Kilmer as an automotive entertainer. He is a ‘jack of all’ kinda guy for car knowledge, however, when it comes having specialized knowledge on a specific brand, he is not the guy.

@TheCarCareNut Great! Will do that. Thanks again!

Those are just weak points as in ANY human made car. I have a 2012 that runs like a top. It just needs a cup of oil once a month. No other complaints. I will report here when it reaches 300K miles.

@TunaDad For Toyotas, I would weigh more on advise from someone who works only on Toyotas day in and day out and that includes new car warranty claims, TSBs and recalls. There is a difference between primary care physician who has broad level expertise of human bodies and cardiologist who has much deeper expertise on one organ, if that analogy make sense 😉. In my personal experience, the solutions from specialists were a lot more effective. I was into the Ford Mustang world for a period of time and I had the same experience. Ford Tech Makuloco channel by Brian had very accurate diagnosis for Fords compared to Scotty’s diagnosis.

Hi Brother! A question came up that I wanted to ask you. My commute involves driving 70 miles total which also includes 70-75 mph in a freeway. At what mileage/age does a well maintained car becomes unsafe to drive in this manner? Currently I have racked up 140,000 miles in my 2012 4 Cy Camry and there is always this fear in the back of my mind about car getting older with higher miles and its structural/mechanical integrity at 70+ mph. Is there a retirement mile/age for this type of usage?

@TheCarCareNut Thank you so much brother for your kind response. I’m in Georgia and not near the ocean. Thankfully I have no rust issues here! I got an oil change last week at my nearest dealership. It came with an inspection sheet and the service advisor said everything looks good. Will that suffice or is there any special paid inspection service available that I can have them do it once a year?
2
@TheCarCareNut Great! Thank you brother!
2
@TheCarCareNut Yes brother, I’ve been owning this car since new. I’ve done oil changes every 5000 miles or 1 year (instead of 6 months). The longest interval has been 7000 miles a couple times. It burns half an inch from from the max level in the dipstick every 300 miles. I’ve been observing this only after 130,000 miles.
2
@TheCarCareNut Thanks for your suggestion! Can I request an oil cleaning service at my local dealership?
2
@TheCarCareNut I called three dealerships and they don’t do this service here unfortunately. Maybe I should try independent shops. Do you use this solution? https://www.donvalleynorthtoyota.com/toyota-parts-focus/toyota-engine-oil-system-cleaner/

Sounds like a simple procedure. I will try the Liqui Moly 2037 Pro-Line Engine Flush before my next oil change. Thanks so much brother!

Hi brother! I have a question on AC fan issues on 2012 Camry. The weather was hot with 85F last weekend and the AC fan didn't turn on. I used my blue driver OBD scan tool and found a few codes - C1426, U0073, B1585 and P0504. The next day the AC fan started working. The same issue happened last summer when the car was parked outside in 100F sun. Would love your thoughts on this. Thank you!
2
@TheCarCareNut When the fan didn't come on, the AC cooling effect seemed to be off, but the green AC light was still on. With those codes, the tool also hinted at brake light switch and control module-sensor communication. The brake lights are working with no issues though.

@neuralismgamingtv4511 I came across Dave Ramsey’s baby steps and his advice on investing on cars is very wise. New cars are great to tease our senses, but they better not come in the way of becoming debt-free, having atleast 3 months of emergency funds, saving for kids college and saving for retirement. It is not wise to be car rich and life poor. Living paycheck to paycheck in debt with a $700 new car monthly payment has become a norm in today’s society. Good luck with your Camry search and I hope you find a well maintained one. I own a 2012 Camry that burns oil like no tomorrow. I switched to 3000 mile/3 month oil changes to baby the car. It was fine until 130,000 miles. The oil consumption started after I started following Scotty’s advise of changing oil 7000 miles/1 year, so I would take his advise and tips with a grain of salt. This car has also had its share of extensive idle hours, so going cheap on maintenance is a big NO!

@jpgentleman3490 Smart move and great value. Let someone eat the depreciation!

Hi Brother! In one maintenance video, you mentioned that the engine oil when cold would be below the max level and it expands to max level only when fully warmed up. So when it's cold, how many mm below the max should it be? Thanks!
2
@TheCarCareNut Thank you dear brother, that's so awesome to know. The OCD in me often thinks this is oil consumption, I'm so glad it's normal to have it in the middle when cold. This brings up another question, I have the habit of filling the coolant to max level when cold. I learnt that it's incorrect also. How many mm/inch below the max should that be when cold? Thanks again!

@TheCarCareNut Thanks so much!

Hi Brother! I had a diagnosis done at my nearest dealership as my cruise control and all of door actuators/automatic locks were down in my 2012 Camry with 140K miles. I received a quote for $500 and $2600. They also found out that the upper and lower radiator hoses were soft and quoted $450 for them including parts and labor. Are these typical in these cars from your experience? I can live without auto door locks and cruise control as I’m old school, but curious about the radiator hoses. Thanks!
2
@TheCarCareNut Okay, thank you kindly. For cruise control, the vehicle condition report states switch replacement is needed and for door locks, it says front and rear both sides doors lock actuators are bad and need replacement. The report doesn’t mention about body control modules.
2
@TheCarCareNut The cruise control still works like one in 20 attempts when the weather is warm while going for a long drive, but for the most part down. For the door locks, the rear ones went out first and then all of them. They were working intermittently for a few days and later they fully went out. Thank you.
2
@TheCarCareNut Okay, much appreciated brother!

No, AMD is not lying. You probably drive like a grandma, just kidding 😂. I had my torque converter replaced under extended warranty exactly as he mentions. This was 5 years ago. Transmission fluid needs to be changed every 60K.
2
Hi Brother, my oil level was about an inch below the max when I checked the level today on my 2012 4Cy Camry. I’m yet to do an engine flush that you recommended in the past. By mistake, I topped off with 5W-30 instead of 0W-20 oil. Is this bad for the engine? Thank you.
2
@TheCarCareNut Great, thank you so much!

Your car will continue to be on the road for 300,000 miles if maintained well!
2
Hi brother, I had a minor (aka stupid) incident yesterday in a high parking lot curb. I scraped the splash shield real bad below the front area under the car and it was not staying secured both sides as a result. I put a duct tape to prevent this from dragging on the road. Is this an essential part or is it okay to remove the splash shield? Thanks!
2
@TheCarCareNut Thank you so much brother. Much appreciated taking the time from your busy day to answer this. I will double check that. I have a jack and need to get a jack stand from AutoZone to take a look. Or I will try to request my dealership to allow me to take a look on the lift as I'm due for an oil change now.
2
@TheCarCareNut I got the fasteners from AutoZone and they are in place now! As you suspected, it was just the fasteners! Thank you so much.
2
@TheCarCareNut Thank you so much brother. Will do!

I think I got lucky with the steering column. No issues on mine except for oil consumption after 130K miles. I also got a new and free TC from Toyota around 75,000 miles.

@neuralismgamingtv4511 Yes, $10-12,000 is a good price for nice used Camry. If you can get a V6, it adds some reliable fun too!
