Exercises and tests are far from reality is what people don't understand Secondly, the F-16 was designed under impression that aircraft would have to fight their way in and out of the battle space We live in modern warfare and gaining air superiority can be achieved without dogfights You knock out the enemy's defenses and attack the enemy's airfield and disable runways and taxiway, they can't scramble aircraft All you have to do is destroy the aircraft while they are on the ground There are several methods of destroying aircraft on the ground that achieves air superiority Modern air forces rely on tankers, AWACS and other C4ISTAR aircraft A special forces attack against those assets would cripple an air force Without your AWACS , its hard to coordinate, , with tankers its hard to stay air borne and without ISR , you cant' get intel You no longer need to rely on fighters for air superiority, they can carry out other vital missions The development of hypersonic weapons only furthers that

The F-15 and F-16 were both designed solely for air combat however the F-16 was through various blocks was adapted for multi-role while the separate F-15E was designed for multi-role. While the F-16 was dependable workhorse , the F-15E was highly valuable asset. The F-15E has nearly 3 times the range of the F-16 Even the F-16 Block 70 barely approaches the F-15E range but most importantly, the F-15E has a massive payload options compared to F-16
