That would be incorrect the F-14 could engage 6 targets simultaneously from 100+ The problem ironically was the AWG-9, the AWG-9 RF emissions would light up targets RWR like christmas trees due to its extreme power The radar's powerful scanning allowed to 6 targets simultaneously from 100+ but at the time, RWR was still relatively new tech Once RWR became common place, the AWG-9 became very useless against aircraft which lead to its retire The USN changed tactics from stopping the missile to stopping the aircraft but the AW-9 massive RF making that attacking aircraft would know they were being targeted and retreat and come another time The F-14's problem was the USN never was truly invested in it The F-15 entered service in 76 and by 78, the much improved F-15C was in testing The F-14 entered service in 74 and wasnt truly improved till 1987 which was the coffin for it
