Its not adapting, its just bad decision making. The USAF ended up with less F-22 because of cost While the F-35 has better capabilities, its no F-22 and odds of it mixing it up with a Su-57 or J-20/J-31 are not that great The NGAD needs to be an evolved F-22s with F-35 capabilties but better engine, sensors and avionics

Its not a problem. Its idiotic Last time I checked, the USAF ended uo with less F-22 because of cost. The thought was the less expensive F-35 at time could fill the F-22s shoes and that was proven to be false so why go down that road again when you know how it ends Stay the course with NGAD
3
USAF's is problem is that despite being considered the smartest of the branches, they are still bone dead stupid There are two few F-22s and they want to cry cost on the NGAD if they carry over tech from the F-15EX, F-22 and F-35, cost wont be problem The F-15EX Advanced Display Core Processor II (ADCP II) and Wide area display. The F-22s cockpit design , speed and agility. The F-35's HMDS/DAS/EOTS/EODAS/ASQ and weapons capability The only things that need to be new is the design and engines
2
How about no While the NGAD and FA/XX should share, engines ,sensors and avionics, that designs have to be different. The USN doesnt need anymore hornets. they need to focus on prototyping the FA/XX. The F-35 can replace all F-18s but there would be no justification for the FA/XX program. The only thing that USAF should do with the F-16 is buy block 70s converted to act as EA-16 like the USN EA-18G.
2
@colbunkmust This little thing called cost By using tech from the NGAD, the USN can keep FA/XX costs down commonality between the two can help both sides
2
@colbunkmust Not correct Engines made by PW , RR or GE can be applied to either design Raytheon, L3 , Collins and Harris again tech that can be applied to either design The base design may be NG, LM or BO but the tech can come from various sources
2
@colbunkmust If the USN wants to keep cost down, they need to borrow from the NGAD Secondly incorrect. The first F-35C was delivered to the USN in 2009 The first USN unit was operational in 2012 for pilot training and the first combat unit to transition to the F-35C in 2018 The F-35C procurement is only 420 planes currently
2
@colbunkmust The F-35A has priority over the F-35C in production as the F-35A orders are well in the thousands while the F-35C is low hundreds The F-35C for the USMC has 2 units while the USN has 6 units. The F-35C by no means is new as the USN has operated them since 2012 For reasons only god knows why , USN opted to complete transition from F-18A-D to F-18E/F instead simultaneously transitioning F-18E/F and F-35C There were 5 units that could stood up as F-35C units instead of F-18E/F Its not 1/24 there clueless one. As more Ford class carriers become available, the older Nimitz class will be retired. It makes no sense to retrofit the F-35 to Nimtiz carriers that will be retired shortly CVN-70 through 73 can operate the F-35C, the CVN-74 through 77 will get it with their next RCOH So out of 11 CVNs, 5 can operate the F-35. As stated billion times already F-35C procurement is low

@anthonykaiser974 No, i never the USAF made that call, they are just bone dead stupid for complaining about cost when there are too F-22. The F-22 cancellation was to due to short sighted people in the White house and Congress. By cutting procurement , they drove up individual unit cost. The F-15 and F-16 as a series has been flying for much longer
1
I never said that USAF made that call, it was made by short sighted people in congress and the white house The F-15 and F-16 as series has been flying for much longer
1
@jeromebarry1741 Yes however In contested airspace, the F-16 vs Su-35 is 50/50 split whereas A-10 versus is 10/90 split with high odds of it being shot down
1
@colbunkmust Procurement for the F-35C isnt a priority compared to the F-35A
1
@colbunkmust No, Lockheed right now is more concerned with the F-35A which is the cash cow than the F-35C If Canada had asked for CF-35C or the UK for the F-35C as they considering adding cat and traps to their carriers The F-35C might move ahead a little but the queue is the F-35A If Lockheed was smarter, they would privately build an F-35E two seater off the F-35C frame A two seater would appeal for training but most importantly a potential EF-35E for electronic warfare would appeal to basically everyone else especially the USN
1
@colbunkmust Incorrect. The F-35C between 2009 and 2016 was between 2 to 7 planes annual. Only 2017 did the USN and USMC for that matter starting making serious orders Secondly, the before the F-35C can hit the fleet, The Fleet Replacement Squadron has to have adequate instructors and pilots trained before the F-35C can move operational As I stated because the of the low procurement and USN decision with the F-18E/F , the F-35C intro severely delayed . The F-35C procurement is low while the F-35A is not As for the F-35s a while, LRIP-13 was first order over 100 planes , LRIP-12 was 91. The rest of planned LRIP are 120 planes plus. COVID has severally impacted FRP The FA/XX needs to adopt engines, sensors and other tech from USAF programs to keep costs down. if they go it alone , they wont get anywhere fast
1
@colbunkmust Delays are only going to hurt both programs badly
1
@colbunkmust The simple fact of the matter is that if the USAF had to engage Russia or China in air The battle would be iffy which is not good The USAF need to regain its dominance
1
@colbunkmust Its called facts
1
@kameronjones7139 The F-35 has dominated in situations where it can maximize its stealth but what happens when that advantage is negated The F-22 lacks the F-35s advanced avionics but can easily hold its own in any range The NGAD needs the F-22s speed and agility as well cockpit visibility. The F-35 HMDS/DAS/EOTS /COMMS and weapons capability needs to carry over
1
The problem is that stupidity is taking root once again. Insufficient F-22 were due to cost and by the time they realized their mistake too late Now they screaming cost again because of Russia's inability to make the more Su-57 and China's problem with the J-20 tech How about we not wait for them to unscrew their program and get air dominance back to be uncontested
