They used their pull as foot hold but ultimately were proven wrong

The F-16 didnt change air combat, it just brought forth the era of multi role design

The F-16s growth as far as things go, there is very little room to grow The only possible for the USAF to keep the F-16 is make Growler variant of like the EA-18G to give the USAF their own escort jammer like the USN. Beyond that, the F-35 pretty eliminates the need for the F-16

@bryonslatten3147 As far reallocate resources The USAF needs to replace its RC-135s with newer RC-767 variant as well buy MQ-20s

The Fighter Mafia was ultimately laughed out of the defense industry because their so call conclusions were very much complete nonsense They did use their PR to back door the F-16 into service which was the only good thing they did right

@LamarPro1 Beating what exactly The F-16 has very little in terms of air to air combat Its strength in air to ground not ACM The F-15 both US and Israel hand has been the dominate fighter The Eurofighter , Rafael and Gripen had nothing to do beating the F-16 and everything about designing a capable aircraft For Eurofigther, it was a successor to the Tornado For Rafale, it was either that or the F-18 For Gripen , Saab was designing an aircraft for Swedens needs
1
@LamarPro1 That would be false The F-15 is just as agile as the F-16 The DCS players like to claim that but in real world combat, the F-15 reigns supreme
1
@LamarPro1 And when has that actually mattered numbers and real world combat are two different things The MIG-29 on paper has better performance than F-15 yet the F-15 has handed the MIG-29 its ass both in WVR and BVR The F-16 has better specs than Mirage 2000 yet the Mirage has downed an F-16 Turkey has lost a few F-16s to Mirages
1
@LamarPro1 The claim was that F-16s changed air to air combat. Thats literally false. The F-16 true strength came from air to air ground not air to air Now yes, the F-16 did incorporate a lot technology , design and technology as did the F-20 and no the F-16 was not the first aircraft to use HOTAS , that was English Electric Lightning But again, none of that matters as the F-16 is not the dominate air to air fighter , All rounds still lead to the F-15 and the F-16 is still better at dropping bombs than ACM

@LamarPro1 How exactly did the US have better trained pilots when the last time the USAF engaged in large scale combat was in 60s while the bulk of Iraqi pilots were combat veterans from the Iran-Iraqi war Now to quote General Horner, the Iraqi air force was very capable and pulled off a lot great missions during the Iran-Iraqi however their major weakness was they were heavily controlled by the ground and secondly, they lacked AWACS and relied on ground radar The US exploited those weakness and for majority of the engagements, the USAF was always in the driver's seat Yet in those encounters, the F-16 despites its called specs failed
1
@LamarPro1 Ironically that nothing to do with losses First , the aircraft lacked cannons Lack of cannon is why many NVA pilots escaped death During the Korean war, the A-1CM gunsight-AN/APG-30 radar give pilots a decisive advantage yet when F-4s finally got guns, its lacked the precision Secondly USAF deployed heavy jamming which completely blinded NVA comms but US intel in their infinite wisdom ordered the USAF to stop claiming listening to NVA was worth it NVA pilots heavily relied on GCI Most importantly the AIM-9 and AIM-7 poorly designed and tested even worst conditions that were no even close to real world conditions During the Korean war, most of the commanders were combat veterans from WW2 and listened to input from the forces on front. In 60s most of the commanders were ones who flew desk most of their careers Pilot training was a factor but not the only one As stated before, the USAF exploited the Iraq weakness which why they were so successful
1
@LamarPro1 Red Flag and Topgun were number 4 of 6 problems with aerial warfare in vietnam The point of both is make sure skills and training are passed on but both are moot if the aircraft they are flying are not up spec US problems with aerial warfare not solely pilot training nor was it biggest issue
1
@mortarman81guns The F-16 changes multi role not air combat The F-15 changed air to air it successfully applied BVR ,WVR and GUN into one package
1
The Fighter Mafia used connections to get the F-16 into service but ultimately tasted failure when their so call conclusions were proven false
