The key addition of EMALS and AAG will allow for easier use of UAVs which opens the door for a lot of possibilities The E-2D endurance is limited by fuel and crew which is normally 8 max as is the SH-60 which has even shorter endurance An MQ fitted with surveillance kits for air or maritime endurance is over 18 hours plus The Ford newer reactor has directed energy weapons in mind both Laser and High power microwave weapons There is a lot possibilites for this the class

its simple not of the units aboard the CVN-78 have transition to F-35C yet
3
Lockheed isn't at FRP unit and the UK is still trying to figure what they want to do
2
And the USN isn't worried the slightest about overhyped Russian tech
1
The irony there is that they can't improve it unless they deploy and use the system under operational conditions
1
You can't compare to the two The USN is main user of the Super Hornet aside from Australia and Kuwait while the F-35 has over dozen user orders that have to be filled Secondly the F-18E/F has been production longer while F-35 production is still ramping up to full rate

@pvp64 The UK needs money for the BAE Systems Tempest program and cutting F-35B gives them billions back in their pocket not someone else's Secondly the USMC, Japan, Italy and South Korea has considerable orders plus additional orders from Spain and Singapore which means that F-35B production line will be open for quite a while so if they decide they need more F-35Bs or got back to the 138 option, they can its very calculated and thought out move thats basically a win a win for the UK either way

@AA-xo9uw Spain 2023 budget has replacement aircraft for the AV-8B (Spanish Navy Harriers) and C.15M – 2nd Phase” with € 6.25 billion. The Juan Carlos I is amphibious assault ship so it does not have CATS or TRAPs for CATOBAR or STOBAR The AV-8B has been out production since 2003 and they have already red lined the AV-8B at 2029 So unless they are planning on retiring their Harriers without replacement? which does not sound like Unless they planning on developing FCAS with STOVL capability, The F-35 is only game for them to retain that capability for the Juan Carlos

@1chish They will be operating concurrently but not quote change in orders for the F-35 Let like I said, they making a calculated move
