Right now, the Marines are developing a fueling system to be carried by the MV-22 which would allow the MV-22 to bring both fuel and weapons. A KC-130J needs at least 3000 ft to operate, the F-35 just need 500 ft whereas the MV-22 can land like helicopter. Once the Marine develop the ARS for the MV-22, its just 500 ft for the F-35B. Thats huge capability for expeditionary warfare. As for alternatives Lets see the Rafale despite its claims is still woefully inferior. Thales already admits that its Damocele targeting pod lags behind every else. Secondly France has the Rafale equipped with mainly French made weapons which are way more expensive than US made The Eurofighter is a good choice but still lacks as weapons are still being added, it has the capacity to grow but funding is its problem the JAS-39 is lightweight powerhouse but still light weight the F-15, F-16 and F-18 are still good planes but its time to let them retire
