False The Osprey safety record exceeds the aircraft they replaced

Developing a next generation warship is not cheap especially when its the first one

its not The corner stone of the US military's might is its air power While artillery has its uses , missiles and drones are far more flexible Case in point Since the war started in Ukraine Russia has only managed to destroy 1 HIMARS and damaged 2 while over 100 towed 155m units have been destroyed as over 120 self-Propelled Artillery Thats not counting Ukraine's Russian made equipment Russian losses for its artillery is equally as high The key is that HIMARS can set up, shoot 1-6 missiles and displace under 2 mins but most importantly, it does out of range of most all systems on the ground The Swedish Archer and German Pzh-2000 can also do the same but at shorter ranges Will towed systems be around for much longer not likely

@CoreyANeal2000 Yeah no Air power strike for effectively than any artillery battery ever could Hence why M1299 was abandoned The Humvee Hawkeye need 2 mins to emplace and fire. Even with RAP , its range is only 12 miles The Archer artillery can emplace and fire 3 rounds with 75s with range of 31 miles The Spike NLOS can be launched from the back of JTLV from up to 31 miles away. Newer missiles are network centric allowing them to handed off once fired The Israeli variant of the launcher is mounted on TOMCAR that drive out of the back of CH-53 and CH-47s substantially faster than any sling loaded arty but most importantly, the missile seeker is passive EO-IR/CCD which gives that target little warning and unlike arty which Ukraine has show that EW can impact GPS guided, missiles are relatively immune to most EW Shelled arty days are numbered

@CoreyANeal2000 Incorrect.the point of developing M982 Excalibur and other precision rounds is 1 round 1 target. Unguided rounds depending on the skill of crew was average of 3 to 10 rounds GPS is simple load and shoot. The Excalibur S uses semi-active laser targeting allowing for more precise shots but Laser warning receivers are common place now Thanks to lessons learned in Serbia, the US military has heavily invested in SEAD/DEAD sensors and weapons so there is no risk In a pier to pier conflict, sophisticated air defenses are not a problem Russia and China's push with hypersonic weapons has made such defenses moot Case in point, The S-400 missile range is 250 miles. Launched from 300 miles away Most subsonic crew missiles need 35 minutes to reach an S-400. That mean EA-18G has to jam for last 30 min which makes them vulnerable to defending fighters The Hypersonic Attack Cruise Missile (HACM) covers that distance in 3 mins The Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW) also can strike within 2 mins launched from 400 miles away With either missile, the EA-18G only need to jam for 2-4 mins Enemy cant respond in any case. All missiles has to strike is communication and radar and the site is useless Follow up strike can target command truck and missiles later on The Hawkeye can be airfielded only be sling not internally carried , it would need a redesign for internal carriage but its range is still just 12 miles at best The problem with the Stryker SHORAD is that desperately need a modern warfare upgrade

The point of precision rounds is 1 round 1 target. On average is 3 to 10 rounds using uguided rounds depending on the skill of the crew where precision is load coordinates and fire. The US military unlike Russia has is heavily invested in SEAD/DEAD. The hawkeye can be sling loaded not carried internally The gun would have need redesigned Thanks to hypersonic weapons, such defenses are moot The Army's LRHW can strike an S-400 from 300 miles in 2-3 minutes, Combined with jamming from EA-18G, there is nothing S-400 could do about Before hypersonic weapons, yes but now not so much

@charlesdark2861 Incorrect Aircraft are assigned kill boxes and orbit till called for. Artillery has to be in range or in the area Unless its self-propelled howitzer , Towed artillery has set up to shoot and that takes time It also depends on the situation Case in point Retreating Iraqi forces set fire oil fields to prevent aircraft from destroying them The US military responded with TOT packages that flushed them out so aircraft can destroy them Today, targeting pods are advanced to enough to see through virtually anything
1
@charlesdark2861 Them not being on station defeats the purpose of having killboxes Again unless its SPA or they just happen to be in range its aircraft not arty The whole reason for expanding the MQ-9 from 4 to 16 hellfires as well 500lbs bombs was to address need for CAS Thats why newer missiles are being equipped with hand off capability allow them to fired and handed off to friendly forces for terminal guidance Hence why both the Army and Marines are rethinking towed arty due Ukraine SPA have been more effective and survivable than Towed units HIMARS has been highly survivable with just 2 units destroyed and 2 damaged thanks to be its ability to rapid fire and displace
1
@charlesdark2861 Thats why CAS has been expanded beyond A-10, F-16, F-18s and F-15E They can only orbit for 1 hour plus before having to hit the tanker and crew can only be in air for so long B-1s and B-52 orbit for hours. Their only limitation is they cant use missiles like Hellfire or Maverick. MQ-9s can orbit for hours but their limitation is the payload As Ukraine is showing, shelled arty can only do so much Newer SPAs like Archer and Pzh-2000 can rapidly shoot and scoot before counter fire reaches them Afghanistan, was mountainous terrain and SPA did better staying in fixed locations like M777 than moving M777 and M119 can carried by air but again, it takes time and their range is limited The JTLV with SPIKE NLOS missiles can be carried by air and strike targets 20 to 30 miles away The Humvee Hawkeye to match that would need the gun redesigned so it lower The CH-53K can carry a humvee internally but that Hawkeye is too high so they would have lower the gun or bring back a newer generation of M40 recoilless rifles U
