there is nothing odd about it Airport often have communities , roads and cities around them The wall is in case of a overshoot kepts the plane from departing the airport and plowing into whats on the other side

The landing is clearly pilot error all the way

The key part is not the wall but the pilot bringing the aircraft down at 200 mph The pilot was supposed to kill as much speed as he could to kill his forward momentum Judging by the video, he clearly overshot the mark and landed too far down to runway this is all pilot error

@palind9884 what is supposed to happen is the once the plane cross the lights, the pilot is supposed to throttle down and flare the nose to aero braking the plane killing as much forward momentum as they can The plane was going over 200 mph which was wrong. The minimum speed for B-737-800 is 161 mph even with single engine The pilot should have been trying to kill his speed but judging by the landing, he over shot the mark and landed way late The wall people are attacking is the ILS Array which is supposed to be there so planes can land in all weather the Array boresighted on the runway

@leecolburn7849 Hard to see from that vintage

@waiwai5233 The issue is why the runway had no overshoot protection

@oreoconsushi1848 City cropped up around airports its just the way it happened over time however airports in the US are required to have engineered materials arresting system (EMAS) or measures to negate overshoots Ultimately its still pilot error as the landing was clearly blown

@Balnazzardi Its clear that Korea Office of Civil Aviation (KOCA) needs to look at the US FAA and EU EASA to improve its regulations, standardization and most important, safety rules

@thehappycamper7360 Yet another failure on their part
