Gorbachev ended the cold war and gave eastern European countries their sovereignty back. A great man.

Gorbachev opened the door, and Yeltsin fell through it, after which Putin closed it again. Yeltsin mismanaged the transition, no doubt in large part due to endemic corruption and a failure to sweep away the old guard.

The, system he inherited was dysfunctional. It was stagnating. He tried to carry out necessary reforms. He is a great man, because when the day comes that Russians do gain their freedom, they will remember Gorbachev as the man who started it all.

@anonymousinfinido2540 I'm sure. Crimea means a lot to russians because they say it connects them with the west, ancient Greece I think. In its heart Russia longs to belong to the west itself.
