  1. There were many fronts. Germany was 50% of axis total strength, and Germany spent 60% of her resources against the western allies, but 70% of her manpower against the USSR. This is because the war in the west was for many years an air and sea war, more expensive than land war. The axis as a whole devoted just 35% of its resources fighting the USSR, and the USSR was getting substantial material and logistical support from the western allies, 300,000 trucks and 13,000 planes, for example.
