  1. Constantinople was the capital of the eastern Roman empire. We might call them Byzantines, after the original Greek settlement, but they called themselves eastern Romans. The lady is also ignoring the fact, that most of the region spent 400 years under Mongol rule, during which time Moscow was founded.
