I hope it isn't like your fight against "England" (had been the UK since 1707), because that was about vested slave owner interests, Virginia planters and the "rice Kings" of the carolina basically, who were getting uneasy about anti slavery legal rulings in britain, which were a direct threat to the plantation economy (which relied on slavery) but let's forget that because it doesn't sound very noble. P. S. George Washington was a Virginia planter who owned 900 slaves. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Jefferson and madison were also Virginia plantation owners who owned hundreds of slaves. Correct me if I'm wrong.
